Message from His Worship Pt Ubraj Narine, Mayor of the City of Georgetown, on the occasion of International Women’s Day.

International Women’s Day 2022 advocates for the removal of gender bias which confines women to traditional roles. In the modern era, our women continue to contribute significantly in all sectors of life. Women are successful entrepreneurs, engineers, specialists and balance family life.

While history has attempted to suppress women, denying them their due recognition for their equal and often times extraordinary contributions, I take this time to salute the women of the municipality and all women.

The COVID pandemic has seen the women from our rodent and vector control unit providing essential services to ensure that our facilities are sanitized reducing the spread of the deadly virus.

As the Georgetown landscape continues to change, our women in the building inspectors section of the City Engineer’s department are on the frontlines ensuring that buildings are erected in compliance with the law.

Let us join the movement to break the bias against our women and celebrate them. I pledge my continued support to the women of the Council. Happy International Women’s Day!
