About Our Mayor

His Worship Pandit Ubraj Narine has been Mayor of the City of Georgetown from January 2019 to the present. He is happily married to Meenakshi Narine, and from the union came their daughter, Avantika Narine, and son, Avesh Narine.

He resided in several areas including, Wakenaam for ten (10) years, a small island located at the mouth of the Essequibo River, Crane Village on the West Coast of Demerara, where he resided for seven (7) years, and Lamaha Street, Georgetown, Guyana.

Education & Qualifications

Before picking up the mantle as Mayor of the City of Georgetown, His Worship Ubraj Narine has been a Hindu Priest for sixteen (16) years and has been doing Paralegal Service for Five (5) years.

Mayor Narine attended the Wakennam Nursery School, Crane Primary, then to Uitvlugt Secondary, where he wrote the Caribbean Secondary Examination Council (CXC). He obtained a Diploma from the Cornerstone Christian Correspondence School, a Certificate of Custom brokers, a Certificate in Pandit training from the International Vedanta University, a Certificate in Hindu Rituals and Ceremonies, a Certificate in Sanskrit Language, a Diploma in Legal Studies and he is Commissioner of Oaths to Affidavit, Ambassador for Peace and Marriage Officer amongst other achievements.

Taking Georgetown to the Future

His Worship plans for the City of Georgetown are numerous, from security to hygiene, city development, to improve the mental health and well-being of the Citizens of Georgetown. His vision is bright, as it is clear, and he has the best interest of the City of Georgetown at heart.

He is a Pandit who accepts and has great respect for all other religions. He is God-fearing, and is wise in his ways, and blieves that he has what it takes to bring continued changes and development to the City of Georgetown and Guyana.
